I’ve been playing this game since it came out in 2011, and I figure it’s time to post some sort of tips compilation after nearly five years of gameplay.1.) People suggest “Golem Cursed” in the comments a lot. Take the hint. I have never died once while playing that combination. The build itself is kindof foolproof, but personally I like even str / stamina up to 300 and then dump in str up to 500, and past if you haven’t quit yet. The combined bonus to resists from both Golem AND Cursed is too massive to pass up…in my mind, it’s hard to justify taking any other build over the massive advantage and freedom this bonus gives you.2.) Do not “sell” base level rings, (aka, steel ring, copper ring, silver ring, etc) equip them. Once a “Fish of Luck” drops, drag and drop one of your EQUIPPED rings ONTO the fish that’s in your inventory. You can have the passive bonus from two fish active at the same time this way, one per ring slot.3.) Unlike in most games, resistance stats are KEY in this game. Get your fire resist up as close to 100 as you can, as early as you can. Worry more about electric than about poison. And by the time you start seeing the blue ice knights that can charge, you had better have 100 ice resist. Endgame is 85% ice and 10% fire with a 5% smattering of electric tossed in for fun.4.) Personally, I dislike any Vampire or Werewolf (lifesteal and regen, respectively) builds. I dislike having to waste so many stat points…which do have an EFFECTIVE cap around 500, so they are not infinite…on hp. Str should be the dump stat, not hp. Survive-ability comes from resist stats and fast kill speed, and massive pools of hp just mean that both you and the monsters will be dying at about the same speed. Be moar fasterer at pwning den da mobz!5.) Stat titles are worthless. As attractive as “+5 str and int” is, it only makes a difference in the first few levels of gameplay. After that, as mentioned before, your stats will be in the 500’s…each…and five more here or there will not effect your character at all. Go with Bonebane, (50% dmg to skeletons) Traveled, (5% run speed) Marathoner, (10% run speed, stacks with Traveled) or Bonemaster, (20% Chance any skeleton that sees you will temporarily be charmed.) I dislike armor titles for the same reason I dislike stat titles; once you have 1300 armor and up, another three or four armor means nothing.6.) Casters? There are viable builds, I won’t say don’t make a mage, but I dislike them for several reasons. If you cast a spell on a mob…any spell…your character will automatically run towards it immediately after casting, which makes kiting a much bigger chore than it needs to be, and it can and will get you killed much more often than even your average squishy-mage-type player would like. Also, and I’m still testing this now since I’m lazy, it seems that while the proportion of effectiveness that equal amounts of stamina and strength have is pretty solid, the proportion (comparatively!!) of effectiveness that equal amounts of willpower and intelligence have is kinda…wonky. It’s a completely viable build to go even str / sta, but an even wis / int build doesn’t appear to be viable, resulting in the player having to choose between playstyles: either massive damage for one or two casts and then running, or trying to kite around the stupid mechanic of running at your target with each cast while doing relatively no damage whatsoever.7.) Mobs are social, but apparently in this game their social behavior has a very short radius. You can safely attack a mob a given distance away from another mob without having to worry if they will both rush you. However, each new type of mob DOES have a DIFFERENT radius. Headless skeletons, the first mob, have the lowest social radius. The boar-head mobs, the ones where their caster version has an elemental attunement of fire, have a larger social radius, and are more likely to crowd you if you bother them.8.) Bosses and chests stop giving on-level loot (both item level AND pearl amounts) around floors 60 – 100; although the actual floor number seems to vary, just be aware that at some point, bosses and chests can be completely ignored. Don’t risk diving headfirst into a room stuffed with 24 mobs standing in a circle holding hands just because there’s a chest in the corner…you may get one pearl, three steel rings, and a nice shiny new title from your heroic death for your trouble.9.) Utility spells are useless if you’re not a caster. Heal isn’t worth the slot without the wisdom and int to back it up, entangle is beyond useless even with a mage build, and shield wastes mana and prolongs the inevitable. If you find yourself wanting or needing to use shield, then you’ve built incorrectly and need to restart. “What about Bolt!?” It’s nice. IF you’re a caster. IF you built correctly. (By that I mean, if you built your entire character around supporting that one spell…that’s how bad magic is in this game) IF you’re not up against a mob immune to electricity. IF you never ever once in an endless infinite-floors dungeon, come across more than two or three mobs in the same area. …Just, no.10.) Axes, swords, halberds, staffs, wands…etc etc…“does it matter?” It really doesn’t. Even a staff or wand can be perfect on your warrior or tank, and that 2h halberd can work just fine for your mage. It’s not so much about the damage range as it is about the stats. Attack speed does NOT vary between different classes of weapons. DPS is more or less average across the board between classes. Whatever weapon has the most stats of the type you need for your specific build, that’s the one you want to go with. A 30 – 55 axe with +4 fire damage is great, but you should keep your 25 – 30 wand with +24 str, for example. Please, rate this up so that people can see. With enough thumbs up, we might even get the dev to come back and make a sequel. Who knows.
